In 2024, the number of people displaced across the globe surged to double what it was ten years ago, reaching a new high of 120 million people. At the same time, humanitarian funding covered just half of the rising needs. The widening gap not only reflects a shrinking capacity to respond, but a world in transition. The world is shifting, and people who have been displaced are being left in its wake.
What are the challenges faced by people affected by forgotten and protracted crises? What are the impacts of the cuts to aid budgets across Europe and the US? How can we move beyond the neglect and take action for change?
On 3 June the Norwegian Refugee Council launches its annual report on the world’s ten most neglected displacement crises in Berlin. The event will feature the key findings of the report with a focus on the Sahel region, a panel discussion exploring the meaning of neglect with:
- Dr. Bernhard Braune, Head of Division Sahel/West Africa, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
- Yembuani Yves Ouoba, CEO, Tin Tua NGO and Vice President of the Sahel Regional Fund
- Suzanne Tisserand, Policy Fellow – Africa, European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR)
- Christelle Huré, Regional Head of Advocacy West Africa, NRC
Moderated by Ralf Südhoff, Director Centre for Humanitarian Action.
