An open space for discussion
Innovation has always been at the heart of humanitarian action. Working in insecure and ever-changing environments, humanitarians have long relied on creative solutions to navigate constant challenges and balance risks over opportunities while providing services that are efficient and effective. Today, as the humanitarian system faces a massive legitimacy, funding and morale crisis and pressure to reset, the need for bold, scalable innovation has never been bigger.
In this “Out of the Box” online discussion, we wanted to explore how lessons from past and present innovations can shape a humanitarian reset and, at the same time, inform Germany’s new, incoming government. Experts shared their insights and practical examples on what it takes to reinvent humanitarian action at scale. We wanted to create an open space to share experience from the humanitarian innovation space by talking about innovation challenges, successes and trade-offs and putting the experience into today’s context and struggle for innovative and creative ways of working. We offered an open and interactive space for honest reflection and exchange about how failures can lead to success.
