13th ARA Community Meeting

Date: 25.03.2026
Time: 12:00 - 13:00
Location: Zoom

This event has passed.

At the 13th ARA Community meeting we were happy to have Bastian Fraunhofer as our guest. In his thesis he examined anti-racism and the role of Whiteness in German development and humanitarian non-governmental organisations and found that while German organisations frequently address international power imbalances vis-à-vis the Global South, they have largely failed to scrutinise racist structures and White supremacy within their own internal organisational processes.

Following a short input by Bastian, we discussed:

  • Why is anti-racism sometimes particularly difficult in humanitarian organisations?
  • How do you reflect on your role and motivation for anti-racist engagement?
  • When and how should White allies consciously step back, make space or give up their places?
  • How do we avoid anti-racism work becoming too centred on White sensitivities, while at the same time having to deal strategically with White fragility and White backlash?

If you are not yet a member of the community, you can register here for upcoming: You will then be part of the mailing list we use to send out the invitations.

The event was in German, took place under Chatham House Rule and thus was not recorded.
